The Most Important Zip Lining Terminology to Know

Aerial Platform

All zip liners start and end their journey on an aerial platform. This is simply the tall, suspended platform you climb up to and then zip down to. All platforms will have a guide to assist with your aerial adventure from beginning to end. If you need assistance with any of your equipment, our staff is here to help!

Aerial Runway

The aerial runway is the actual zip line itself that connects the two platforms. Usually, this is made of stainless steel, and you connect to it through a pulley suspended by a cable.

Zip Lining Equipment:

  • Pulleys: A small pulley set is linked to a carabiner and then to the aerial runway. This setup allows a zip liner to move down the runway to the other aerial platform.
  • Carabiners: The carabiner is a hook used to link your harness and pulleys to the aerial runway. A carabiner is made of metal, has a spring-hinged side, and has a clip-on effect very similar to that of mountain climbing equipment.
  • Harnesses: A set of straps used to keep you in one position and direction as you travel down the line. The most common position is forward-facing.
  • Helmet: Our recommended head covering to protect you should, at any point, your head make contact with another piece of equipment.
